VACATION!

I figured since it’s been nearly a month since our last post, I’d write. We’ve finally made it to P-town, and it’s been well worth the trip! We made it in at a reasonable hour on Saturday–breaking the trip up into a couple of legs was good. We met up with Alex & Dom on Commercial, and walked down for South African at the Karoo Kafe. I think we had the same dishes as last time! Dom was craving the bobotie, we shared some ostrich kebabs and snails rangoon, Shawna had the Cape Malay Stew with chicken–the best dish at the table, a simple yellow curry with coconut milk–and I had the beef pie. The beef pie was in a puff pastry, and the beef tasted similar to the bobotie.

We then came back to our apartment, put Em down to nap and hung out the pool–it’s been FREEZING! We had beer and cold cuts for snack, with some of Grammy’s jelly beans to cleanse the palate! We all got dressed and decided to hit Clem and Ursie’s for dinner, which we were sad to find had changed ownership and is now Townsend’s Seafood. The food was acceptable, but the ambience was well, boring. We picked up some tequila and had margaritas back at home.

We decided to have a low-key day on Sunday, given that the weather was crappy, so we just hung out. Shawna and Graem slept in, Emmy and I hung out until Grammy woke up and we just watched tv. Emmy got her morning nap, which was great. The skies cleared by around 10:30, so we all got dressed and decided to meet up with the guys for lunch. We ended up at Bubala’s for martinis and good food. We had pomegranate, pear, espresso and ginger martinis that were very good. Shawna had a lobster roll, I had Caribbean fish cakes, Graem had a cheeseburger, Alex had fish ‘n chips, and Dom had some kind of salad. We all shared a Caesar salad (most of which Grammy ate!) to keep things moving along… From what I recall, the food was pretty good–but halfway through the martini, I didn’t much care!

We walked along Commercial and window shopped, picked up some t-shirts for the kids and some gelato. I’d promised Graem beach time–she’d been begging since we rolled into town–so we stopped by to pick her up a replacement pail. I have no idea how, but back at the apartment she was walking along carrying her pail and all of a sudden I hear a thud and crying–somehow she managed to step into the pail and break it, and ended up scratching her face too.

We got back to the apartment to get our stuff and get dressed, and headed out the door. Shawna and Emmy stayed home to nap and do laundry. Our friend said the beach was a block away, so we started walking toward the water. To our dismay, it was not really beachlike, so I had to run back to the car. We didn’t know where to go, so we ended up driving down to Herring Cove. I sucked it up and bought a season pass–I figured 3 trips to the beach would pay for the $15 parking fee. We picked our spot and unloaded. The beach was sparsely populated–either the weather or the economy to blame. We hung out for a couple of hours, it was really nice. We built a a little sculpture with sand and stones–Graem was good at convincing us to “help’ her with a task, and then would abandon it as soon as she deemed it “done.” I set up the kite for her, and she got bored of it within 10 minutes and left me holding the string.

We did a quick grocery run, and came back to the apartment and ordered 2 pizzas from George’s. Surprisingly, we ate very single slice of one veggie and one pepperoni pizza! The kids picked off all the veggie toppings of a slice or two, which was pretty gruesome. The pizzas came at the right time, in order to feed the kids and get back to the pool when “adult swim” time was over. Kind of an annoying rule–there were no adults in the pool, but we didn’t want to be rule-breakers, since most people on vacation dislike kids. Again the pool was ice cold, but Graem, Alex, Dom and I ventured in.

I’m enjoying vacation so far–it’s great not being at work, and also to be able to be “yes” mom. I’ve been saying yes to soda, candy, cookies, staying up late and sleeping in our bed! Graem and I are going to join the boys for some sea kayaking this morning, and then meeting up with Shawna and Em for lunch in town. I’m bummed they aren’t staying the whole week, but we’ll see them again in October.

Philly Zoo Photos

We went to the Philly zoo Friday when Margot was in class. We had such an amazing time and both kids were so well behaved!

Vegas again?

So my friends from the iVillage IVF and Parenting boards are setting up our next get together in … VEGAS!

To say the least…I’m pretty Vegas’d out. But it might be a nice weekend trip and I’d love to check out the great restaurants this time around!

Las Vegas travel can be done inexpensive (as we’ve proven in the past!). However, with the cost of airline tickets and gas we better start saving now.

Let’s go on a vacation!

We’ve been tossing ideas around for our upcoming family vacation.

In the past we’ve wasted vacation on bedrest trying to get pregnant and traveling around the world to do experimental infertility treatments!

This year we have our dream family and we’re looking at luxury vacations!

The other night Margot mentioned going to Disney but I’m not sure that Grammy is old enough to ride the rides. Plus, I figure that we’d have to take turns with Emmy. Not to mention, when Emmy gets older we will just have to go again!

I’m totally up for a nice trip to St. Thomas or Cancun. Maybe we can recruit the grandparents to provide us with a little non-kid time! *hint*hint*

Fun in the sun!

We’re having a great time here.

Yesterday we went to the beach, ate snacks, and enjoyed the waves. You should have seen the minivan - it was packed up and with the children, food, adults, and blow up toys you could barely see out the back.

After we overdid it at the beach we came home and cleaned up. Then we went for a late lunch. The kids did great other than being tired. When we got home they took a short nap.

Then we decided to venture out for dinner. We went into town which is just a few short miles. The little town here is so cool - but the tourists have obviously taken over. The little pizza shop that we had planned to go to had a wait of over an hour long.

So we decided to skip to the main drag on one of the routes and go to Ruby Tuesdays. It was good initially, however, we then got our food and it was cold, not well prepared, and didn’t have much flavor.

We were going to go out for icevcream but Emmy had different plans. She was on the boob for most of the afternoon and wouldn’t let off for a minute. When she was taken off she wailed. Which meant that all car rides were pretty miserable and I just couldn’t take her screaming to the top of her lungs as we looked for a parking spot!

Today was much more relaxed and better planned. We decided to go to the pool early. We got a great spot and the kids, Margot, and I went swimming. The water was perfect and again we had some great snacks!

Now we’re just waiting for everyone to wake up and I think we might hit the Popeye’s for dinner. It’s easy, cheap, and we figure there aren’t going to be a lot of out-of-towners hitting the fried chicken!

We’ve taken tons of pictures during the past few weeks and when we get home we’ll post all of June and some recent teaser photos.

Graem is giant and growing like a weed this summer. I look at her and can’t believe that she’s such a big kid. She’s filled out a bit and seems to be a little meatier.

Emmy is doing the same! Her cheeks have fattened right up and she’s LONG! Of course, she has my build. Long torso and short legs. She also has my other admirable features - big nose, and elephant ears.

Sorry, Emmy!
