A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Back to the sweatshop

So here it is, dress #2!  It took me about 4-5 hours to do this one, spread over 3 days.  I had a deadline for this one: Grammy’s first school photos were on Friday.  Since it’s the same pattern as the first one, and I had gotten over my fears of messing up, I was able to breeze through this one quickly:

  • Wednesday AM, before Grammy woke up: Cut out 2 of the 4 pattern pieces.
  • Wednesday PM, after dinner, with Lew Lew distracting Graem: Cut out remaining pattern pieces, cut out interfacing, fused interfacing.
  • Thursday AM (5AM!!): Sewed all the pieces together.
  • Thursday PM: Did buttons with Grammy “helping” with the “bittons.”

Enough chatter, here are the pics:

Mission accomplished!

I finally finished The Dress this weekend.  I think I put in about 10 hours from start to finish, which means at my billable rate, it’s a $650 dress.  “Couture,” my co-workers call it.  Anyway, here are the pics:

On to bigger and better, we picked out some more fabric to do the same dress, and will attempt another pattern.  Not so sure about the second pattern, it’s got pleaty-ruffly things in the waistline.  I still don’t know all the terminology (why anyone would want to baste a dress is beyond me), so they will remain pleaty-ruffly things.
