A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Archive for House Woes

Darn bathroom.

Our bathroom has been the demise of our existence.   At some point I think we should just light it on fire and watch it burn.    Then of course, we could start from scratch.

Right now we’re trying to figure out what to do with the water leaking from the light fixture in the bathroom.    Of course, we have no idea where it’s coming from (other than the roof).

Of course, we’d get to do the things we love most - shop.    I love looking at the bath faucets at Lowe’s and Home Depot.   One thing we realized though is that they really don’t have the high end stuff that we like.

Faucet.com offers a great selection of faucets from contemporary to traditional and they offer fast shipping and great prices!

You can’t see me!

When we moved into our house almost 5 years ago the first thing we did was take down all of the wall coverings.    The house was owned by a couple of 70 year olds and everything was dark and green!

We decided to go with curtains in the living room and all of the other rooms in the house.    However, we realized that the rooms and windows were so bright that in order for us to get the rooms dark enough to sleep in during the day we’d need to resort to Window Blinds.

I wish we would have known about SelectBlinds.com because it took us months to find the perfect blinds for the room and we spent an arm and a leg getting them custom made because the sizes weren’t typical.

What a mess.

The other night I stepped into the basement and although we cleaned it just a few months ago…it’s trashed again.   I really think we need to invest in more shelves and a utility cart.

That way everything would have a place to live.   Our problem is we don’t have enough hooks, flat areas or places to put our tools.

Not to mention, our basement is quickly filling up with baby stuff and kid’s toys!

Houston girl.

I was born and raised in Houston and I remember how hot it can get out there!   In fact, whether it’s December or July most people stay indoors with the a/c on because it’s overwhelming.

One thing that people can do is to look into Houston pergolas.   Pergolas offer a cover for your deck so that you can go outside and not be in direct sunlight.   They look really nice and are a fine addition to any home or condo.

All-Tex is a name that people know and trust in the Houston area.   They provide options for people who want to make home improvements.   In fact, they also specialize in siding.

I remember every few years my mother would be up on latter in the Texas heat trying to paint our house.   It was grueling.   Had they made the initial investment of siding the house would receive an extra layer of insulation and she’d never have to paint again!

Ready to move.

Last night Margot was changing laundry and noticed that we had a puddle next to the washing machine.   This same space has had water before due to the bathroom leak and water coming down from the leaks in the wall (pure tragedy).   So she first looked to make sure that the water wasn’t coming from upstairs and the bathroom.

Then she had the idea that the water was seeping in from the basement floor since we’ve had so much water.    To say the least we’ve had water issues and haven’t been able to get a handle on them!

Just last week we called the plumber out and he charged a good 90$ per hour.

Since our house is over 50 years old there are few things that we really know how to do.    Margot has actually been able to wire older home and was able to run another telephone line from the the hallway to the living room and upstairs.   But that’s about it!

Knowledge is power” is what we keep telling ourselves, however, even with the knowledge we just aren’t motivated to get our butts off the couch and fix the problem.   Even though professionals are expensive we’d rather them fix it then for us to mess up the situation even worse!

DoItYourself.com is a great website for people like us who have no idea what we’re doing.   They can walk you through the process and the website seems pretty easy to navigate through and use.

I keep telling myself that every house has it’s “issues”.
