A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

My little girls are growing up!

Yesterday was a milestone day for both girls: Emmy outgrew her bucket seat and officially moved into the rear-facing Britax; Grammy got invited to her first big girl playdate, where we stay home; then Grammy finally willingly slept somewhere other than our bed.

It’s hard to believe that the little girl who started off in the NICU and wasn’t gaining enough weight is now in a big-girl carseat. We’re relieved, because carrying that bucket was getting to be a drag! She was quite a bit heavier than Grammy was when she outgrew it–Graem was 3 months old when she exceeded the length limit.

One of Graem’s friends from school invited her over for a playdate on Saturday. And her mom said, why don’t you just drop her off and pick her up at noon? When Shawna told me this I was flabbergasted–you mean we just walk away?

Then to top off the night, Graem decides she wants to sleep in her tent, complete with her Pablo sleeping bag and flower pillow. I put up the tent on a whim, to see if she’d take–which she did. She slept the entire night til around 6 AM. She didn’t even want to snuggle before she went to sleep! The last time this kid slept somewhere other than our bed was when she was just about a year old–we spent about 3 or 4 days of letting her cry it out in the crib. And she’d only stay there until about 2 AM.

These kids are growing up too fast!

It’s my fault…

that there haven’t been adequate updates lately. I’ve been so exhausted because Emmy has been waking up every 30 minutes to nurse in the evening!

Then to keep me fueled up I tank up on caffeine. That in turn keeps her up …
and the cycle goes on
and on
and on
and on.

I have been caffeine free for more than 48 hours now and I’m feeling much better. Yesterday was like medical detox and I felt the worst headache behind my eyes and between my ears. It was horrible.

Of course, since I’ve stopped all caffeine I must admit that little Emmy has been sleeping from 8pm to 5am!

Maybe there is something to it…

Can I just say…

how awesome our little baby is?!?!

She slept from 7:45pm to 7:15am this morning!! She didn’t wake up, cry, or nurse once either.

It’s really quite shocking to see her doing so well when we put her in the crib.

Last night I nursed her up and let her cry it out in her crib for 2 minutes. Then she fell fast asleep.

I didn’t hear a peep from her until this morning!!

To say the least…Mama is a very happy camper and I’m starting to remember what getting sleep is like. My tank was just about on empty and it’s so nice to be able to sleep without getting up every hour or so for feedings.

Emmy is totally different from Graem. Graem always wanted to be snuggled and sleep close to Margot. It appears that Emmy needs a good cry before she goes to bed. Plus, she loves her space. She loves being warm in her fuzzy pajamas and sleep sack and she is able to comfort herself.

I could get used to this!!

The weekends are too short!

It seems like Friday night through Sunday night are in fast forward and through the week is in slow-motion!

We had a fantastic weekend!

Saturday morning we gave blood at the local blood bank. Then we went to the Scarecrow Jubilee at the local Children’s Garden. We met up with one of Graem’s school friends from IC3 and they played together.

Emmy even made a friend!

We brought Emmy’s “friend” home and he serves as the scarecrow for the front yard!

Sunday we had a fun day in the leaves. We all played and had a great time!
