Last night was quite restless. I think Emmy’s going through a growth spurt because she’s been sleeping quite a bit but also waking up frequently to nurse.
Last night I felt like she was rooting for the boob every fifteen minutes. At least I’ve gotten to the point where I can change a diaper and feed her in the dark without turning every light in the house on!
However, having so much interrupted sleep is discouraging and at 4am I woke up to nurse and couldn’t go back to bed because I knew I’d just be feeding her again in fifteen minutes!
One thing that we’re realizing with the two girls is that they are two different kids (DUH?!) and with that we have to change our parenting style for each one. When Grammy was a baby she loved to be snuggled and nursed to bed. Even now she loves having a warm body close by.
A few nights ago we started letting Emmy cry it out in her crib or playpen. By goodness…it’s working!! We’re not struggling with her and typically we put her on her belly and within 30 seconds she’s already asleep.
I really didn’t realize it’d be this easy but it’s nice to not have to fight her on sleep when she’s so exhausted and I think she really likes her space and realizes that when she goes in her bed it’s because she should be sleeping!
*yawn*
I’m off to drop Grammy at school this morning. Margot had a meeting in Albany and had to leave the house early. This afternoon we’re picking up one of Grammy’s friend’s from a different montessori and I’m going to take the kids out for a few hours.
I guess this will be a taste of what it’d be like with three kids.
YIKES!
Did I just say that?

We went for Emmy’s 4 month check-up today, here’s the news:
Weight: 15 lbs. (75th percentile)
Length: 25.5″ (85th percentile)
Head: 41 cm (50th percentile)
We talked about her crying spells, and they suggested we start getting her hooked on a soothie, so that she can self-soothe herself back to sleep. They’re thinking the girl is just overtired, and therefore cranky. We’ll see…

This morning when I was doing Skype with my mother Emmy flipped over for the first time completely!!
She started out on her back and moved her side and leg over then in no time she built up enough momentum to flip all the way over to her belly. I really couldn’t believe it and it was great that it happened when my mom could see it too.
During the skype conference call she almost did it another time too.
Then I put the girls in front of the television as I was cleaning the kitchen and came back to this:

A few minutes later I came in because I heard a screaming baby and this is what I found:

That’s right. It’s Emmy flipping out of her carseat and face down in her carseat! It’s a good thing that her carseat wasn’t on the tall kitchen counter where we typically put it!
Guess we’re going to have to strap her down from now on.
Life just got a little bit harder!

We’ve been in Philly since Thursday afternoon and I can honestly say…I WANNA GO HOME!!
It’s been a lot of fun here and we’ve enjoyed museums, historical sights, and amazing food. But I miss my house, my cloth diapers, our baby gear, and most of all … my bed.
We’re leaving this afternoon and heading to IKEA. We’re going to check out bunkbeds and hopefully we can find something for the girls. We were going to do it for Christmas but I’m not sure how we can load it in the car without Graem asking many questions!
We have some great photos and we’ll post them when we get home!

Graem was watching the new film “Animalia” by Graeme Base today. Emmy seemed pretty interested too so I put them together on the floor.

What’s funny is that they were equally interested in the movie!
One last photo of Emmy dressed for a brisk fall walk!
