We’re having a great time here.
Yesterday we went to the beach, ate snacks, and enjoyed the waves. You should have seen the minivan - it was packed up and with the children, food, adults, and blow up toys you could barely see out the back.
After we overdid it at the beach we came home and cleaned up. Then we went for a late lunch. The kids did great other than being tired. When we got home they took a short nap.
Then we decided to venture out for dinner. We went into town which is just a few short miles. The little town here is so cool - but the tourists have obviously taken over. The little pizza shop that we had planned to go to had a wait of over an hour long.
So we decided to skip to the main drag on one of the routes and go to Ruby Tuesdays. It was good initially, however, we then got our food and it was cold, not well prepared, and didn’t have much flavor.
We were going to go out for icevcream but Emmy had different plans. She was on the boob for most of the afternoon and wouldn’t let off for a minute. When she was taken off she wailed. Which meant that all car rides were pretty miserable and I just couldn’t take her screaming to the top of her lungs as we looked for a parking spot!
Today was much more relaxed and better planned. We decided to go to the pool early. We got a great spot and the kids, Margot, and I went swimming. The water was perfect and again we had some great snacks!
Now we’re just waiting for everyone to wake up and I think we might hit the Popeye’s for dinner. It’s easy, cheap, and we figure there aren’t going to be a lot of out-of-towners hitting the fried chicken!
We’ve taken tons of pictures during the past few weeks and when we get home we’ll post all of June and some recent teaser photos.
Graem is giant and growing like a weed this summer. I look at her and can’t believe that she’s such a big kid. She’s filled out a bit and seems to be a little meatier.
Emmy is doing the same! Her cheeks have fattened right up and she’s LONG! Of course, she has my build. Long torso and short legs. She also has my other admirable features - big nose, and elephant ears.
Sorry, Emmy!

Yesterday we arrived back in Syracuse. The flights all went great and both kids slept through most of them with no crying along the way!
Graem had a great time in Houston and really bonded with Grandpa. It’s cool to see them have such a unique and cuddly bond. I could tell she was sad to leave him and go home.
It was also nice for us to have extra help with Grammy and Emmy. When I wasn’t nursing my mom would step in and snuggle Emerson or play with Graem.
I haven’t uploaded any pictures from our trip - but here are some that were taken over the past few weeks.
Friday before we left we went strawberry pickin’. We all had a great time and ate so many strawberries that our faces were red!

That’s right folks, we’re in Houston!
Right when we stepped off the plane I knew we were in a different place. Perhaps it’s the man that held the door open for us and said “surely, mam” or the other guy who helped us put our bags in the airport shuttle.
There’s definitely something to be said for southern hospitality!
We’re having a great time in Houston and it’s been fun to see my parents with both kids. My mother hasn’t put the baby down for a minute and Graem really has a great connection with my dad.
Emmy has taken a turn for the better. Friday we had the appointment with the Lactation Consultant and we talked about getting a deeper latch, holding my big boob differently, and also her overall weight gain. At the beginning of the appointment she was 7lbs 1oz. After a good feeding she was back up to birth weight at 7lbs 3oz.
I agreed to change up the latch a little bit and try hard to pinch my boob to make it smaller for little girl. The lactation consultant basically said that the big mama to little baby ratio was somewhat harder than medium mama and medium baby. Therefore, the trick is that I’ve got to fatten the kid up and make my boob into a beautiful little muffin.
We are also going to go for a weigh in here in Houston tomorrow. I hope that everything is on track like I think it is and she’s gained at least a little bit.
Thanks to everyone for the comments and information. I’m so glad that I’ve kept trucking through this without doping my kid up on formula. (No offense to those that use formula!)
Gotta love breast feeding in Houston. I must say I haven’t had too many bad looks but yesterday when we went to eat at one of the Mexican restaurants Margot saw a lady in the bathroom covered with blankets nursing her baby.
Ugh…I will not resort to making my kid eat in the bathroom.
If the kid is hungry and needs boob … she gets boob.

I really can’t believe how fast time has gone by. I knew it would but this is outrageous! I wish I had felt better the first week or so. However, I’m assuming that’s just part of giving birth and not feeling quite up to par.
Emmy has quite the attitude and I knew what I was getting into because she was pretty much a wild woman in my belly! I knew those games of prod would cause her to have anger issues and hope that she doesn’t have to go through too much therapy to work through it!
Emerson has started smiling a little bit and she scrunches her nose and eyes and it’s so funny. Most of the time a smile is followed by a loud screech and then an even louder cry. But I’m stickin’ with my initial assessment…it’s a smile, damnit.
The girl is held all of the time. I hate seeing her sleeping in her crib because I know that it’s going to go too fast and I want to be a part of every second. Plus, she’s so cuddly and loves snuggling in on my boobs and tummy.
I remember when Graem was smaller. In hindsight, I always wished that I had held her more, played with her more, and not have spent so much time on the computer or watching television.
So this time, I’m going to try to do this with no regrets.
I apologize now for the lack of updates, pictures, and other ramblings…but…there are things that are more important these days!

What’s that?
It seems like little Emerson likes to sleep every other night! Last night being the night she chose to take off and keep her mama awake!
She would sleep for around two hours and then want to nurse for an hour or so. To say the least this got pretty tedious and by 4am I was exhausted.
I’ve decided that it’s probably going to be more effective for me to get up and nurse in the chair. For some reason I think when I nurse lying down that she’s not getting a lot of milk to fill her belly up with.
The thing about having an adorable baby is that even though I’m exhausted and would have paid a million dollars for fifteen minutes of sleep…
I couldn’t help but look at her and think “she’s mine” and “I love her so much.”
