A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Archive for 2009

Eek.

The other day we were at the local kid’s toy store. We have parent guilt that Graem is born three days after Christmas and typically she gets all of her good gifts from Santa. (Darn him.)

While we were in the store I was looking around and without knowing it I knocked over the biggest cardboard displays they had in the store! I’m not just talking about the small endcap.

No sir…I had to knock over the one full of these small bouncy balls.

Maybe next time I’ll just hang out in the cold!

5 years old.

I can’t believe that my little girl turned five yesterday.

Wow.

I’m old.

We had a great day. Margot took off and we had lunch at the Japanese Restaurant where Graem ordered sushi. Then we picked up Graem’s friend, Ava, and they had a playdate full of barbie and princess fairy play. UGH.

We bought cupcakes, sang “Happy Birthday” and Graem kept saying “This is the best birthday ever.”

Each year gets better and better!

Back to school!

Over the past few months I considered going back to school and even looked at an online university! It’d be fast, economical, and ideally I could do it when the kids are at school or sleeping.

I’ve always had an interest in nursing and had things gone different in my life I would have really wanted to be a nurse/midwife.

Western Governors Online University offers an RN to BSN online! That assumes that you have an associates or another degree in nursing and with a few more online classes you can get your BSN.

Sign up seems easy and the WGU website offers great information on the different programs offered. I actually called to get more information and the counselors that answered were knowledgeable and very friendly.

The word of the day is…

STONES.

I have gallstones and they hurt like a mutha. I went to the ER a few weekends ago after having a hell of a dinner at our friend’s house. It felt like my upper gut was about to pop out and I felt horrible. By 2am I was bent over in the bathroom and decided that it would be best for me to leave Margot home with the kids and drive to the hospital.

There I blessed the ER with my barf and they inserted an IV full of narcotics, anti-nausea, and belly meds.

Upon examination they were pretty sure it was being caused from the gall bladder and after the ultrasound the next day they were positive.

The next step is to meet with the surgeon Jan. 4th and discuss surgery.

I hope they give me good meds… I don’t want to feel a thing.

Hard water?

When we had a well we had the hardest water! In fact, we had supplemental water softeners and we had to load it with salt every few months.

Now that we’ve hooked up to municipal water our water doesn’t smell like spoiled eggs and with the water filter on our fridge the water is drinkable!

Isn’t country living great?!
