A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

A year ago today…

our little Emmy was conceived in a petridish.

On September 11th, 2007 I went in for egg retrieval and I was pleasantly surprised when they retrieved 21 eggs.

That afternoon the embryologist injected 14 of the 21 eggs with a single sperm from Chinese doctor.

Overnight my little eggs became fertilized and grew into two cell embryos.

On September 12th I wrote this post:

I got the call today that out of the 21 eggs - 14 were injected with sperm and only 5 fertilized.

I’m so upset I can’t even begin to write about it. That’s absolutely horrible and I feel like I should have trusted my gut and not had them do the injection of sperm and instead had the eggs fertilize naturally.

When the doctor called back all he can say was “be positive, you have 5 embryos.”

Blah…I feel like I’ve been positive when I had 14 embryos and look where that got me.

I guess the good thing about all of this is that at least I don’t have a false sense of hope that this could work. Maybe this is a good thing cause for the next two weeks I can be prepared.

On September 14th we transferred the following SEVEN embryos:

I would have never guessed that one of those embryos would have resulted in the beautiful baby that’s in my arms right now.

Wow…life really is good. It’s been an amazing year full of ups and downs.

I’m glad that despite the heartache, financial strain, and emotional rollercoaster that I stayed the course and kept my eye on the prize. I’ll never take any of this for granted.

Thank you for the happy post in the middle of so many posts about seven year old events.

Both of your daughters are adorable. :)

It’s truly amazing what life brings us…and how out of sadness and dispair we can find peace and happiness…and what our hearts truly desire…

(((hugs)))
