A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Update: Cloth diapers.

As everyone can see from some of my earlier posts I’m back home and trying to make some money by doing some blogging and advertising. Those cloth diapers are expensive and Mama loves the new BumGenius 3.0 which cost a fortune!

Fortunately, I’ve found that our local diaper shop Jillian’s Drawers offers a great “Gently Used” section and I’ve been able to pick up some great deals on used diapers that were part of her sample program and used for less than a month. Most of the diapers are in perfect shape and you can’t even tell that they’ve been used!

We’ve tried gDiapers, Kissaluvs with Bummis Super wraps, and Bum Genius.

gDiapers were quite the fluke for us. I’ve used them about ten times thinking that each leaky, crappy diaper must have been put on wrong or maybe it was Emm’s big butt blow that did the job. Then there’s the whole aspect of having three parts of the diaper. There’s the outter shell that’s adorable and makes baby butts look too damn cute. Then there’s a plastic liner inside that you put the flushable liner in. It has way too many parts and when Emmy had a blow out every single piece had to be either thrown away or put in the crap bucket for soaking.

I posted the gDiapers yesterday on CraigsList and they’ve been sold! Some other environmentalist can give these dipes a chance!

The Kissaluvs and Bummis Super Wraps worked pretty good. The Kissaluvs is a soft, terry cloth piece that you snap onto the baby’s butt. It gets pretty darn wet and so you use the Bummis Super Wrap to put over it. They hold tons of pee and haven’t leaked any poo out.

Typically, when you’re using this combination you change the Kissaluv during every diaper change because it’s wet or poopy but you keep the same Bummis and can use those until they get stained or smell of pee. The inside of the Bummis has a water resistant fabric and so the pee just beads up on it.

My favorite is the BumGenius 2.0 and 3.0. It’s really a one-stop-shop with these diapers and they’re soft on the inside and velcro right onto the kid. They’re perfect for a crying baby where you need to move fast too. I like the fact that they are easy and typically you put them on, they soak up tons of pee and poo, and you can throw them directly into the crap bucket without having to give much care to them before washing.

All in all, I’m glad I’m doing cloth diapering. I feel it’s helping the environment and there’s a part of me that really likes washing, folding, and knowing that something soft and cuddly is on my precious baby’s bottom!
