A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Archive for May, 2008

Still here and still pregnant!

Today we saw the boys off. It was quite sad and Graem cried.

Then we decided to do some yard work. I hopped right on the riding lawn mower and did a darn good job at mowing the grass if I don’t say so myself.

Our next task was to kill ants. We have these damn carpenter ants that are pretty persistent and each year they come back with a vengeance. So we put down the poison outside and hopefully this will do the trick. To have someone come out to the house and spray starts at around $450. Augh…I can totally think of about 2,000 things that I’d rather spend money on right now.

After that we tried to lie down for a nap and Margot and Graem took a nap while I cleaned Graem’s room and the living room.

Now we’re all sitting on the couch naked because it’s so friggin’ hot and humid out.

Did I mention we’re also eating mint chocolate cookie ice cream?

Emmy: Tonight would be a great night for you to be born!

Exhausted.

Last night we got in from the hospital and I went straight to bed after writing the post. I slept like a baby - only getting up to pee.

This morning we all woke up pretty chipper. We had pancake breakfast and set out for the wineries. We went to Americana Winery first and Margot, Alex, and Dom tasted about 14 different wines. To say the least they got bloody drunk and Graem and me played outside while sipping on soda and eating fudge.

Then we decided to venture out to the next destination: Lucas Vineyard. It was nice and everyone stumbled in and drank a few more glasses of wine.

We decided to eat at Simply Red - Sheldrake Bistro and it was delcious! We sat outside on the patio that overlooked the lake. We had great conversation, amazing food, and more wine! (Not me, of course!)

After a two hour lunch we decided we’d continue driving around the lake and go to MacKenzie-Childs. They specialize in pottery and are located in Aurora, New York. All of the pottery was over the top - even for two gay guys. We walked the property looking at the tulips and animals. It wasn’t the same as a few years back when they had beautiful peacocks and perfect grounds.

The boys have been dying to see the Ithaca gay scene and so we took them to our local townie hang out - Common Ground. They had a nice family BBQ and we had margaritas and soda. The boys had hotdogs and I had a delicious hamburger.

Now we’re fat, exhausted, and smelly!

I had a few contractions at the winery…but I must say…I’m not really sure I see this kid coming any time soon and I’ve give up on jumping up and down, sex, herbs, and howling at the moon.

A nice little practice run!

Well, we just got back from labor and delivery - with no baby.

I started having contractions at 3pm or so after I took a dose of blue cohosh. I kept an eye on the contractions and continued to have them through 8pm. They were both dull and sharp and at one point they were only 3 minutes apart and lasted a good one minute or so.

So I called the midwife and she said to come in to the hospital and she’d check me out.

Margot and me were going to head out while Alex and Dom stayed home with Graem but Grammy got so upset we were leaving and we figured the whole gang could come along for the field trip.

So they took a seperate car and we took the van to the hospital.

When we got there they hooked us up to monitors and it appeared that my contractions had pretty much died down. Throughout the three hours I was hooked up it looked like I was having one good contraction every ten minutes.

Not enough for them to declare labor.

So, the midwife came into the room and did an internal. Wasn’t too bad and I’m thankful this a small fingered midwife! She came back with 70% effaced and a finger tip dilated. Not too shabby - however, I realize this could go on for another week or so and possibly beyond.

We talked about big babies and small pelvises. It sounds like I’m not going to get much sympathy from her on that front and I just hope she doesn’t hold back on the good drugs when I ask for them!

Now we’re back home and ready to go to bed.

Too much fun for one night.

Only the best for me?

I’ve always loved luxury watches but I can honestly say that I’m not sure they love me!

When I was a kid my grandma let me wear her Cartier watch and I was so scared that I would lose it or break it. I ended up giving it back to her because I didn’t want to get in trouble for an unfortunate mishap!

These days I go pretty bare wristed because I’m constantly sweating also I feel like hands and sausage fingers need can’t have any restrictions!

Give it up for silver!

One thing that never loses it’s value is silver! Even when our stocks are floundering you can always look to silver, gold, and precious metals to maintain their value.

Monex Deposit Company offers silver and other precious metals for delivery or they will make arrangements to have your metals stored privately and securely at a bank or depository.

I didn’t realize this but Monex Deposit Company (MDC) is an industry leader. They sell silver in two forms: coin or ingot. We all know what the coins look like, but the ignots are pure bullion cast in a convenient size and shape. I can only imagine they look like the blocks that are in most cartoons!

The world demand now exceeds the supply demand for silver - which makes it a pretty smart investment.
