A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Archive for April, 2008

35 weeks.

I’m exhausted, bitchy, exhausted, crampy, and exhausted.

My hips, lower back, and pelvis have been giving me issues in the evening and of course it just gets worse as the night goes on and I try to get some sleep.

Today we went to the midwife and we asked our list of questions. She also checked to see how the baby was in my belly. Initially, she said that the baby felt like she was head down. YIPPEE!

Just before the appointment PDB had the hiccups and I could feel the hiccups up high (under the boobs) and so I was sure the baby was head up. (It’s really a treat to see the girls bobbing up and down as the baby hiccups. Sometimes I think I’m going to get a black eye.)

So the midwife gets out the doppler to check the baby’s heartbeat. She goes everywhere and little Emmy starts performing karate chops to all parts of my belly! She then does some ninja jumps complete with full twirls and cartwheels.

Finally, the midwife finds the baby’s heartbeat right above my belly button. Which would lead us to think that she’s head up and not head down like she’s suppose to be.

So she decides to do the Strep B culture to see if I need antibiotics during delivery. It that test comes up positive then they’ll try to push delivery along within 24 hours after my water breaks and I’ll be given pennicilin.

*WARNING: TOO MUCH INFO*
I thought that the culture was done in your who-ha and was shocked that they touch the swab three times. All three times between your chotchy and bunghole. Interesting indeed.

*BACK TO NORMAL CONVERSATION*
So, after she was done with the Strep B culture she went in and did an internal to see if she could feel the baby’s head. She thinks it was the head and it seemed low. However, I was experiencing too much pain and asked her to stop.

I really think I’m going to be screwed with this whole delivery thing. I can’t even take a few fingers in there, yet I’m expected to get a baby out of that same vicinity. Damn, mama’s in trouble.

Much to our delight we were told that little girl is probably long and anywhere between 6 and 6 1/2 pounds!

The good thing about all of this is that we get an ultrasound out of it because the midwife couldn’t say for sure how the baby is lying. Thursday’s the big day and I’m hoping and praying that little girl is head down and stays that way!!

Now I’m going to watch some court television. I’m hoping that will put me fast to sleep!

P.S. I love the Double Whopper with cheese sandwich from Burger King. Yum. And yes, I can eat the whole damn thing. With fries. And a shake.

Oh crap!

We’re under 40 days today… crapcrapcrap. I feel like I haven’t finished everything I need to at work, including another out-of-town trip. Yesterday’s was a drag–Buffalo all day–plus I got lost on the way home (long story, I HATE Google maps). The only place I wanted to be was home and I was two counties out of the way of my route, and worried about my girls.

Then Shawna points out that this coming Tuesday it could be “two to five weeks.” Shit! We’re not packed. Various animals haven’t been managed, and our (okay, my) list ain’t nowhere near done. I keep doing non-list items that need to be done, and not getting any credit! Shawna suggested I just add them on there and cross them off so I can feel better about it. Hmm.

The quilts are giving me anxiety, not making fast enough progress on them and I must admit I’m a little scared about sandwiching and actually quilting… Not bothering putting the carseat in the CRV, since that car’s got one wheel in the grave. Lawn is looking a little hirsute, yet patchy in other places.

I’m running out of weekends…

Excuse me!

As most of you have probably noticed — I’m back to my old ways of blogging for money! That’s why I’m talking about skin whitening, weight loss pills, rehab, and poker tables.

One way you can tell if I’m pimpin’ myself out is if the category under the topic has PP. If it does - that means paid post and I’m getting paid the big bucks.

A girl’s got to earn money for cute cloth diapers these days!

Ready for a night out?

I really do think that we’re going to try to take advantage of a night out before the baby arrives. I figure when I turn thirty-seven weeks we can go out for a nice dinner (MINUS GRAEM) and enjoy each other’s company!

Of course, I’d love a night around poker tables since you know how I love my casino adventures! However, I *know* Margot won’t take me to the casino two hours away to play a little black jack!

Boy, I can just see big mama gambling nine months pregnant with a beer in one hand and cigarette in another.

Can you say - white trash? I’d gamble away all the diaper money!

One thing I’m worried about…

is that if we get baby gifts for Emerson that Graem will feel left out.

I’ve really tried to pick everything up for the baby that we might need but I know that here and there we’ll probably get a few gifts from family and friends.

One thing that we read suggested actually having a gift stash for Graem too so that when we opened a gift for Emerson she’d have one too. Dollar Store here we come!
