Trying to keep someone IN timeout

I’m finally starting to feel a little better today, after nearly four days of being sick. I never get sick–I don’t believe in it! But alas, hubris got the best of me and I came down with what I think is the flu–sore throat, coughing, sputum, chills and achiness. Little Grammy got the same, with the added joy of a fever up to 102. We’ve been quarantined upstairs while Shawna avoids us like the plague and sleeps on the couch. Poor Grammy has been delirious at times, talking in her sleep and coughing and fidgeting. I’m hoping she’ll make it back to school tomorrow. I’m glad that it’s easy for us to keep her home so she can rest up and get better.
Emerging from my DayQuil and NyQuil induced haze, I’m realizing we have 10 weeks or less to go, 70 days or less!!! We started freaking out today at the midwife appointment at the possibility that Shawna could have pre-term labor (she doesn’t! Whew!), and the inevitability of, well, Emerson making her grand appearance.
Nesting has gone into high gear–between the paradigm shift to cloth diapering, the extravagant necessity of a Phil & Ted’s stroller, talk of minivans and bigger houses–I’m overwhelmed. And this is for a baby for which we supposedly needed nothing! The “baby room” is full of gadgets and gear, and we’re immersed in a variety of projects that need to complete before Emmy gets here: Graem’s big girl quilt, half-done and needing batting and actual quilting; Emmy’s baby quilt that hasn’t been started; 2000+ physical photos that need to be organized and albumized; carseat shift and baby seat installation in the second car; bathroom renovation that probably won’t occur; to name a few. I hear Shawna has another list I haven’t seen.
Back to tending to a sick little girl…

Today is marking a great day when I’m 3/4 to the goal of a 40 week pregnancy.
Here’s an update to what’s going on in her development taken from BabyCenter.com:
How your baby’s growing:
Your baby’s about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it’s not very keen; even after she’s born, she’ll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she’ll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)
All in all, I feel really good. The past few nights I’ve had a little bit of cramping here and there but nothing extreme and I think it’s just my big ole’ pelvis spreading out a little so that PDB can slide in there and hang out for 6-10 more weeks.
I’m pretty excited because we’re going for our growth ultrasound today and we’re going to be able to take a look at Emmy. I hope the lady is in a good mood and hooks us up with photos. God knows, we need more ultrasound photos to add to our ever growing collection. Poor kid has had so much radiation her way from the baby doppler I rented and the ultrasound machine that I hope she doesn’t come out with 12 eyes.
If we get photos I’ll try to post them over the next week or so. Margot and Graem are still feeling sick and so they’re both staying home from work and school. Hopefully, they can kick the flu and be back up and running by the weekend. I have a list of “honey-do’s” that Margot needs to start up on!
*Updated with appointment information*
The appointment today went great. We knew we were scheduled for an ultrasound and bloodwork. I also thought I might try to see if the midwives had an open appointment so that I could talk to them about the cramping. Sure enough, they had a 9:00am.
The ultrasound went very good. We were able to see little Emerson and that girl’s got some cheeks! We received two pictures from the ultrasound that Margot will scan in when she goes in to work tomorrow. The baby was measuring right at 30 weeks. Her femurs measured 29 weeks 5 days and her head was measuring right at 30 weeks 1 day.
I also asked the ultrasound tech to show me where her body was in relation to my belly. Her head is down and her body is stretching over my left side. Her legs are right where I feel the kicks - upper right left.
She weighed in at a whopping 3lbs 5oz!
I had to give three urine samples. Initially, when I walked in I asked if they needed a sample and the girl said no. So I peed. Then I was told that they needed a sample after the ultrasound. So as I’m peeing in the dixie cup Margot’s banging on the door. Of course, I don’t hear her and finish up the specimen. She was knocking to let me know that they needed a clean catch! So I had to go in after the appointment and pee into a sterile cup.
We met with Midwife, K. All of the midwives are great and K is no different. She measured my belly and that came in at 32 weeks. So it seems like that hasn’t gotten much bigger from last appointment. She confirmed that the extra weeks were due to the nightly ice cream runs.
After telling her about the cramping she said that she wanted to check my cervix and make sure I wasn’t dilated. It hurt like a mutha. But she said it was “hard, long, tight.” Music to my ears. She also said that the baby didn’t have her head down yet. All of which could and should change over the next few weeks.
I don’t look forward to another internal exam for awhile. However, it did provide me with peace of mind that everything is alright and little girl is staying put for a while.
The urine culture came back positive that I had bacteria and so the midwife decided that this could be the signs of a bladder infection and put me on an antibiotic.
We also received the infamous “BINDER”. It has all of the hospital forms, birth plan, and birth certificate forms! I remember getting this when Margot was pregnant with Graem. It was a monumental appointment.
All in all, a really good appointment and I’m glad to hear that PDB is staying put for a while. I’ve already started my antibiotics and hopefully that will help with the cramping and backaches!

Today we’re all hanging out at home. Margot and Graem got sick Friday and since they’ve been running fevers, snotty noses, and coughing. Yesterday Graem had a fever of almost 102 and last night she was burning up and coughing.
Margot’s pretty sick too. She can barely talk and feels achy all over.
Fortunately, I’ve been able to stay free of the sickness. *knock on wood*
Maybe sleeping on the couch does have benefits?

Just the other day Margot made the comment about how well the gold price was doing.
One of the oldest assets available today is gold. Gold and Silver retain their value through the years and because they are in such demand you can be guaranteed that they are an amazing investment.
With Monex Deposit Company you can be assured that your money and investments are in good hands. They have been in the business of selling Gold, Silver, and other fine metals for over thirty years. They are the industry leader and can guide you to the right product for your investment needs.
The great thing when you buy gold is that you don’t have to worry about the value. It’s demand is always higher than it’s supply which makes it a wanted commodity. Not to mention, it’s not something that you can lose with one bad day on Wall Street.
It’s the perfect idea if you’re looking for something to diversify your portfolio with.

I’m so proud of myself for finishing up the dollhouse before the baby arrived! It’s been on my to-do list ever since we picked up the old dollhouse from CraigsList. My mother actually got into it too and sent Graem all of the furniture along with all of the dollhouse essentials.
Of course, we’re going to have to put it away because the whole idea was that I’d finish it and when we bring the baby home we’d give Graem her “big sister dollhouse” so that she feels special.
Here are some pictures:
