A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Back to reality

I’m finally starting to feel a little better today, after nearly four days of being sick. I never get sick–I don’t believe in it! But alas, hubris got the best of me and I came down with what I think is the flu–sore throat, coughing, sputum, chills and achiness. Little Grammy got the same, with the added joy of a fever up to 102. We’ve been quarantined upstairs while Shawna avoids us like the plague and sleeps on the couch. Poor Grammy has been delirious at times, talking in her sleep and coughing and fidgeting. I’m hoping she’ll make it back to school tomorrow. I’m glad that it’s easy for us to keep her home so she can rest up and get better.

Emerging from my DayQuil and NyQuil induced haze, I’m realizing we have 10 weeks or less to go, 70 days or less!!! We started freaking out today at the midwife appointment at the possibility that Shawna could have pre-term labor (she doesn’t! Whew!), and the inevitability of, well, Emerson making her grand appearance.

Nesting has gone into high gear–between the paradigm shift to cloth diapering, the extravagant necessity of a Phil & Ted’s stroller, talk of minivans and bigger houses–I’m overwhelmed. And this is for a baby for which we supposedly needed nothing! The “baby room” is full of gadgets and gear, and we’re immersed in a variety of projects that need to complete before Emmy gets here: Graem’s big girl quilt, half-done and needing batting and actual quilting; Emmy’s baby quilt that hasn’t been started; 2000+ physical photos that need to be organized and albumized; carseat shift and baby seat installation in the second car; bathroom renovation that probably won’t occur; to name a few. I hear Shawna has another list I haven’t seen.

Back to tending to a sick little girl…

We are contemplating having another (not even as close as you guys are at welcoming another) and we are dealing with the same list of issues! Arg! I hope you guys can get a lot done before little Emmy comes.

Hope you guys feel better too!
