A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Archive for December, 2007

It looks like we’re having a ….

You’ll just have to wait.

We know and you don’t.

OKAY, really, enough of that. (Now you just have to sit through the whole story!)

Today I was at Target and I trolled parking for about 20 minutes. Finally, I found the perfect spot and I was waiting for the car to pull out. Out of nowhere this bizotch pulled from the next lane over, right into the spot. Of course, I yelled out quite a few prime words and also yelled out that I was pregnant and had a two year old in the car!

She had a childseat in her car and I figured there might be some “sisterhood” among mothers. Yeah, right. The wench, just got out of her car, didn’t look at me and walked into Target.

At that point my blood was boiling and so I parked in BFE (way far away) and went into Target bound to find this ho. She was nowhere to be found. So I picked up my rolls of wrapping paper and could feel my heart pounding. Also, I started having some cramping in my upper right belly. Before long I was a total mess and crying up and down the aisles.

So, I decided to give Margot a call and then call our midwives. The midwives said to go to Labor and Delivery at the hospital so I met Margot at the hospital.

There was quite the mess at the hospital because I went directly to L&D and then I ran into the midwife and she said that I needed to go to admissions to do paperwork and get a room. So we went to the second floor and admissions called labor and delivery and L&D said that I should go to the ER! So I went to the ER. Of course, nothing goes fast there and after waiting in line for ten minutes because the printer was broken I was finally checked in.

I sat down for two seconds and the triage nurse saw me instantly and started taking my vitals. When she was half way done she got a call that they were waiting for me in labor and delivery!

The midwife first started off by asking where the pain was and trying to do the doppler and find the heartbeat. Of course, every midwife has a problem finding the heartbeat because I’m quite fluffy and because the baby is so low! So she tries another doppler. No heartbeat.

So she goes to use the ultrasound that’s within reach and of course we are able to see the baby swimming around happily and going nuts in there! The heartbeat was around 150 beats per minute. Of course, she wanted to hear the heartbeat too. So she went back to the doppler. After she couldn’t get it for a few minutes I asked her if she wanted me to help out since we have a doppler at home. In seconds I was able to find the baby’s heartbeat.

So, she was about to release us but I pleaded and asked about placental bleeds, etc. I also brought up the fact we had been through five invitros and already lost one baby. Finally, she said “why don’t we just get a “real” ultrasound”.

Of course, that made me a very happy girl. Even though we had to wait two plus hours with a very grouchy and non-napping girl.

After watching way too many talkshows and cartoons they finally came up and picked me up for the ultrasound.

Again, the kid was totally crazy and moving around like crazy. There wasn’t once when he/she was sitting still and so the ultrasound tech had to literally get the picture and freeze it. She took pictures of everything from femur to brain.

Everything measured perfect and the baby is 6 ounces! The placenta was in tact and of course this was probably more the case of a hormonal, pissed off mama, than it was of something really going on!

We were able to get a DVD of the ultrasound that we’ll have to post later tonight.

After the ultrasound I was discharged pretty quickly and now I’m at home lounging!

**I’m really just glad to know that the kid is doing great and SHE is causing hell already!**

That’s right….we’re having a

GIRL!!

We’re assuming since we didn’t see boy parts that it’s a girl!

Jingle Bells!

Family nap.

Today J&L came over and we had a nice little playdate at our house. Graem and J played so much and of course they had to take every toy out! We ordered pizza from NY Pizzeria and it was delicious (as usual) but they got the order wrong and instead of making a 1/2 mushroom, 1/2 pepperoni pizza - they put 1/2 cheese, and other 1/2 pepperoni and mushroom!

We all went upstairs around 3pm or so for a nap and lately Graem has been putting up a fight and you have to hold her down while she kicks and screams. After throwing a fit…she was able to calm down and her and Margot are still upstairs sleeping.

I read my new book for a little while and decided to hang out downstairs. Sometimes, I’m able to do a nap and get in a good hour and other times I’m pretty restless and just end up wasting my time!

Our next ultrasound!

During my last midwives appointment I was given a script for to have a 20 week anatomy ultrasound done. Of course, waiting 4 more weeks is absolutely insane and I just don’t think that I’ll be able to hold out that long!

Plus, my next midwife appointment is January 15th which means that I should probably think about getting the ultrasound a week before that to ensure that the midwives have the results for the appointment!

We have decided that we are going to find out the sex of the baby. (Unless the kid has other plans!) Of course, one compromise was to keep this information to ourselves and act like we didn’t find it out so that Margot could make the big announcment. The other option was for me to find out and keep it from Margot. However, Margot wasn’t too fond of me knowing and her not!

Plus, God knows I’m not too good at keeping “secrets.” Margot’s already opened one of her Christmas gifts and typically I don’t get this far in the holiday season and give them to her straight from the store.

So glad the holidays are here!

I don’t know what it is, but it just hasn’t felt much like Christmas this year. I feel like I haven’t had the time to keep up with it–plus, year after year Shawna does more and more of it. Maybe that’s it. I haven’t even done my half of the Christmas card list yet–sorry to those of you out there who’ll get a late card!

We’ve also already opened half of our gifts–Super Mario Galaxy for Shawna, a toaster oven for me (we have been suffering from a dearth of toast for nearly year), and a book for Shawna. Graem’s also opened countless gifts, but at least she has a ton more. We got her the Playmobil Advent calendar, which has been helpful as the morning tooth-brushing bribe. My only issue with this particular calendar is that there are too many birds: I estimate that 9 of the 24 boxes were filled with tiny (read: perfect nostril-stuffing size) birds. We will choose more wisely next year.

We went to my work’s Xmas party last night. It was a lot of fun–there are a ton of us now, 10 employees + families adds up to quite a bit. There have been some years where we’d just do a lunch, and there’d be 5 or 6 of us around the table. I think it’s so much more fun with the families and the kids. There were 5 other kids there last night, aged 5 through 8, plus Graem. They were all rough-housing together, and Graem was in the corner (right next to them!) coloring. Shawna commented to my boss that Graem was just like me!

I am looking forward to a few days off and some hangout time with the family. Work next week should be fairly quiet too.
