Happy Thanksgiving!

Just wanted to send a quick shout out to all of the peeps that come to our website on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

We have a lot to be thankful for this year including family, our health, our beautiful daughter, and our baby bean.

We just finished putting the turkey in the oven and should have dinner in a few hours, pending disaster!

Starting a business?

A few years back when I decided to do some consulting on the side I figured word of mouth would be my best advertiser but in the art of doing business I still needed to print out some materials, become incorporated, and set up a small business from an accounting aspect.

All together I think I made the investment of about $500 to become incorporated and have print collateral including business cards, envelopes, and brochures.

Many people who decide to start their own business look towards Commercial Finance as an option. It’s hard getting funding in the United States if you’ve never owned a business and don’t have many assets.

That’s why I was happy to hear about Earch.co.uk. They offer financing of all types and also have a great website with tons of educational information.

Bad baby!

This morning I dropped Grammy off and had to run some errands. Then I had an 11:30am appointment to get the Nuchal Screening done again! (Petri-dish baby was 1mm too small last week).

So, Margot drives up, gets out of her car and said “I think I just had a bad driving moment.” Sure enough, she jumped one of the curbs at her work, and took a big hunk out of her tire! So, we start calling to see if anyone has this specific Yokohama in town.

Mind you, we are trying to get out of town tomorrow and head to New York City. We would switch to taking my car but the stupid break light keeps coming on and I’m in desperate need of an oil change.

So we walk into the OBGYN’s office and Margot is still on the phone and has to get off the phone when they call us. They call my name pretty quickly and we go in to the ultrasound room. The not-so-friendly ultrasound lady puts jelly on belly and finds baby immediately. The heartbeat is 167 (as it usually is) and he/she is sleeping, but in the wrong position to get the scan. They need a profile picture of the baby to test the folds in the neck.

The lady starts to push on my belly and it feels like she’s punching me! At one point the baby moves his arm up as if to say “please leave me the hell alone.” After all of that poking I think anything/one should be awake! Not this kid. He remained sleeping!

So she said that we should go to lunch, come back in an hour and we’d try it again.

We left to go to Kyushu. Margot had sushi and I had hibachi. It was delicious as usual. The whole time we’re there we’re calling around for this specific tire and of course noone has it. So we decide to call around and get my Honda into the shop to have the brake light looked at and the oil change done.

After we drop my car off at the mechanics we find out that Margot’s tire is on backorder at Yokohama and they aren’t shipping anymore. Just great.

So, we go back to the midwives for our THIRD nuchal ultrasound. This time baby is moving around, hitting his face, sucking his hand, and dry humping the sky. However, he just won’t get in the position that he’s suppose to get in for this scan. It’s like he’s doing it out of spite! At one point he got in the spot … just to move 1 second later!

The ultrasound lady kept jiggling my belly to get him to keep moving…but he would just move the opposite direction!

She decided to stop with the scanning and told us we could try it one more time…next week!!

I went ahead and got the prenatal bloodwork done. They test for all of the STD’s, cystic fibrosis, anemia, and some other goodies.

Right now, I’m hanging out at Margot’s work doing this blog entry and at 3:30pm I have a chiro appointment and then I’m off to drop off Margot’s car and wait. It looks like they have an extra tire they can put on the car so that we can drive it to New York and back. They have placed the order for the new Yokohama and it should be in by Monday.

Despite having to dish out a good $200 or so for car repairs, our furnace breaking down last week, and Margot chipping her tooth….it really puts everything into prospective…and we are just so happy to see that our baby is healthy, thriving, and misbehaving already!

So much for college…

And retirement. The market has been doing woefully bad lately…so I just try not to look at my portfolio. It’s just so hard to ignore, especially when in the last few months, I felt like I was doing a good thing by investing a little bit more into both my and Shaw’s retirement, as well as Graem’s 529 account. All those additional investments have wasted away with the market downswing in the last few weeks.

My one brokerage account (what was I thinking??) has dwindled away to nearly nothing. I’m just trying to hold out on my regular mutual fund accounts.

Happy Sunday!

Last night we had a late night. L,L&F came over and we had a great dinner, followed by some decent television and conversation. It had been a while since we’ve hung out due to busy schedules and sick kids.

Graem had a horrible night sleeping. She’s had this lingering cold and I’ve taken her to the doctor 3 times already. They gave her Singulair last week and now she seems to be worse off! We gave her the nebulizer and all last night she was coughing and wheezing. I’m going to try and take her to the doctor Tuesday to see if there’s something better she can get on. I know I should just wait until the Singulair gets in her system cause that’s suppose to be pretty good. But it’s so hard to see your kid sick.

I’m almost 12 weeks pregnant and I can hardly believe it! I think I’m starting to get a baby belly and I’ve had tons of comments that my boobs are getting bigger. GREAT….just what I *don’t* need! Bigger boobs.

I’m happy to report that I haven’t puked in a few weeks now, no spotting, and I’m feeling great! Last night I was even able to stay awake til almost 11pm! Of course, we were watching Iron Chef and all of these great Thanksgiving specials on the Food Network.

Tomorrow I’m going to take a friend to the fertility center in Syracuse. She’s undergoing IVF and needs a ride to the retrieval. I hope they get some good eggs and this time works for her. She has only 2 more vials of sperm that she used to conceive her son.

Tuesday we have our ultrasound again and hopefully the kid won’t be a shrimp and should be at least 45mms! I’m pretty excited to see him/her again. I swear I could see him every minute of the day. I’d be in trouble if I had an ultrasound machine at home. It’s bad enough with the doppler.

Wednesday we’re going to head out to New York City and we’re spending Thanksgiving with Margot’s brother and dad. We still haven’t decided what we’re going for Thanksgiving dinner and I keep pushing for us going out for dinner/lunch. God knows I hate the cleanup … but the leftovers are so damn good!

Happy Thanksgiving to all if I don’t have a chance to post before Thursday!
