A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Baby big cheeks!

Yesterday we went for our last try at the Nuchal Translucency screening ultrasound. The prior two (3) attempts were unsuccessful. I went out to lunch at Pizza Hut before the ultrasound so I was helping the grease of the pizza and my Sunkist soda would help to wake this little guy up a little!

When we saw the baby this time he/she was HUGE! I was shocked that he looked so much bigger than last time. He was approx 63mms and had a heartbeat of 161 beats per minute.

We got to see the baby’s face head on and he had the biggest cheeks ever! It reminded me of an ultrasound that we had when Margot was pregnant with Graem. I wish that the ultrasound tech would have capture the picture of that because it was really cool.

The baby moved around quite a bit, sucked his thumb, and was kicking. He was pretty still for the actual calculation though and the ultrasound tech was able to get the shots she needed.

Here are a few ultrasounds:

This is a picture of the profile of the baby’s face. You can see the big cheeks, nose, and forehead to the right of the photo. You can also see his little hand over his head.

This picture the baby is lying with his head towards us and you can only see a good shot of his little hand and five knuckles and his other hand on the right side.

After we did the ultrasound I went for all of the bloodwork and I’ll have to go again for bloodwork at 16 weeks so that they can compare results and tells us the risks of Downs and other types of ailments.

Already, we love this baby so much. In fact, as I was driving after the appointment I started crying because I just can’t believe that I have a baby inside of me - that’s alive, wiggles around, and appears to be healthy.

This is a dream come true.
