A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Grocery shopping.

It’s been about three months since we’ve been grocery shopping!    We didn’t even have enough food in the freezer, cupboards, or fridge to put together a dinner tonight!

So I decided to go grocery shopping.    We typically go to Wegmans but since I was next to the mall I decided to hit the Tops.    I was able to get some cheap meat and by the time all was said and done the total had come to $384.00!   HOLY SHIT!

That’s a lot of groceries!

Thank God for the little Tops card.    That brought the total down to a whopping $310.00!

So I’m wondering why in the hell do they make people get these cards?    I lost mine years ago and every time I go in the store I always tell them that I don’t have mine with me and the cashier no doubt swipes her own card!

It’s probably the way that the goverment tracks what we eat, how much, and how often.

Close. :-) I don’t know about the government, but other people ARE tracking what you eat, how much, and how often.

I work in market research and my company (and there are others out there too) collects loyalty card data from the grocery stores so we can help them analyze what items are selling well, what items are not, nuances such as seasonality, price points, flavor/size/packaging popularity, etc. so that the retailer can sell more product to more people and of course make more money. So say for example your local grocery store has Coke on sale one week and Pepsi on sale another week, and Coke generated more dollars. The retailer can then assume its shoppers are more Coke buyers than Pepsi buyers and can stock more Coke. So keep swiping that card, you’re basically telling the retailer what you like to buy and what they should stock. :-D
