Moving or need storage anytime soon?

Moving or need storage anytime soon?

I remember when I was going back and forth between Ithaca, New York and San Marcos, Texas and had so much crap that I had no idea what to do with. It was near impossible to find storage in either place. And the internet was an almost unexistent creature only used by the extreme nerds or the government.

You can search the largest Self Storage Directory - Moving.bz by city, state, or zip code.

That’s absolutely amazing! Considering what a pain it is to move and then what a pain it is to look in the yellow pages, call tons of places and get quotes.

Of course many times while calling these places they are too busy to get back to you or try to take advantage of you if they realize you are a stupid college kid or a female!

This makes it easy and within minutes you get quotes for nearby storage places in your area.

Not only do they offer storage though – it seems like a one stop shop kinda place. Which is extremely handy when you’re in a bind to get moved in a hurry. They offer packing supplies and even Real Estate related services.

Perhaps a good advertisement for our dear realtor friend, Mary?

It’s snowing!!!

Big, fat, cornflake flakes, in fact!  I guess we were about due for it–my own personal “Margot’s Almanac” calls for snow on or around Halloween, so here it is.  I wonder if it will stick.

More home repairs…

Top on my list of home repairs this week/month/year is replacing the fan in our bathroom.  I’ve been complaining about it for months now, and now it’s getting worse.  It practically rains in our bathroom when you shower, and that’s with the door wide open.  The ceiling is starting to crack around the fan/light fixture, and all of our metal fixtures are rusting.  And somehow there are rust driplets on the ceiling, as if the ferrous oxide particles are being carried up by the steam and then being deposited on the ceiling when the steam condenses.  It would be a shame to let all the remodeling that we’ve done go to waste and rust.

Home repairs generally don’t baffle me–it’s not a matter of not knowing what I need to do, it’s just getting myself to do them.  I used to be more of a DIY person, but the addition of a certain someone has made it all the more difficult to pull it together.  This job in particular is unsavory because I have to get into the crawlspace, which is now cold, and get fiberglass insulation all over myself.  Cutting through the ceiling is always a bit unsettling, and then doing electrical work with flashlights is quite entertaining.  I’m also considering abandoning the old fan, and just keeping the fixture for the light, since it is decorative.  That’s probably the reason it sucks as a fan–the vent openings are quite tiny.  One thing that does concern me is when it rains hard, water comes in through the existing fan/light–I assume it’s traveling through the hole in the ceiling, down the vent pipe and into the fixture.  Right now with the light, the water actually has an outlet through the fixture–what will happen if I switch to a more traditional fan?  Where will the water go?  Of course the whole idea of water traveling through an electrical appliance is mind-numbing.

Anyway, I think I will put this one off again today.  We’ve been thinking about building a deck, which didn’t seem out of our price range when Shawna was employed–we might have to rethink this one.  I’ve been debating with myself whether to build it out of wood or composite, so I checked out this comparison.  This site also covers other topics, such as automobile repair, carpentry and framing, cleaning, electrical, flooring and carpet, and other remodeling topics. There’s also a free contest where you can be entered to win a $50,000 extreme home makeover!

Still sick!

I can’t believe this cold is still lingering.  I finally went to the doctor yesterday, because I was up all night Friday night coughing.  They gave me some antibiotics, and Prednisone, the latter of which I chose not to take.  Then last night, Grammy was up coughing again, and then I suddenly felt bad that I took myself to the doctor and didn’t take her, that I got meds for myself and not her.  I hope she’ll be okay, but I just feel totally guilty.

Great. I just realized that Daylight Savings Time was last night, and now I’m awake an hour early.  I can’t believe I had an opportunity for an extra hour of sleep, and I blew it!

Cool trivia website

So, everyone knows that I’m not overly into trivia because I just outright suck at it…   but there is a website to help people like me who need to learn miscellanous facts about different topics.   Check out:  Aviva Trivia Blog

I wonder if Jeopardy players who are preparing for the game have visited this website.

The blog has posts which appear to be every two day with a different topic each day.   For example, today’s post is Fun Facts about California.    Who would have known that  more turkeys come from California than from any other state of the United States of America.

Mmm…..turkey.
