A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

An actual vacation

We’re finally rested, fed and happy. Graem and Shawna are still fighting off the cold, I think I’ve turned the corner on it.  After a quick detour to Harrah’s to satisfy Shawna’s urge to gamble (she’s up $10!), we ventured out to the Strip today, and ended up at Caesar’s Palace.  Truly tacky–gold everywhere, over-the-top statues and fountains, an aquarium and light show.  There were over 150 shops, and we were quickly overwhelmed.  All we bought were some pants for Graem, for $6.97.

As Graem started melting down, we left Caesar’s Palace to head to lunch–Tamba Indian Cuisine at the Hawaiian Village.  This was by far the best Indian buffet lunch I think we’ve been to.  They had stuff that we’ve never had, including this stuff that looked like Indian grits and some curry that looked like it was made of cucumbers.  The usual dishes were fabulous, including the chicken makhni, beef rogan josh, and saag paneer.  The dal makhni and the aloo mataar were so good that even Shawna ate some.  Graem finally started eating again after an all-milk day on the plane yesterday.

After lunch, we walked back to the hotel to take a nap.  It was much-needed after traveling yesterday, in spite of the fact that we went to bed at 8:30 PST last night.  I’m trying to keep on my east-coast med schedule, which means I have to get up at 4 AM to do the injections.  I’m trying to move the schedule forward, but it won’t make much of a difference as I only have a couple more days to go.

We headed down to the pool after everyone was awake and dressed.  Grammy is such a psychobaby–she just runs into the water without any consideration of breathing!  She’ll just throw herself in and assume that Mommy or Mama will keep her from drowning.  There was a 14-month-old girl who was more cautious of the water, so much so that her mom could look away from her as she waded down the beach.  We did a little hot tub and played on the spray pad, which Graem enjoyed.

Two new words this trip so far: boo-boo, for Graem’s scab on her leg (which she’s learned to pick), and bubbles in the hot tub.
