A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

A nightmare

Graem and I went to the Immigrant Rally on the Commons yesterday, and decided to grab some lunch when Mama got there. Graem had wanderlust in her heart, and was eagerly trying to escape us while we were preoccupied with eating. As a last resort, I put her up on the seatwall that Shawna and I were sitting on, figuring at least she couldn’t get away, and the most she’d do is trash the planting bed. Graem walked up and down the wall, and seemed content doing so. All of a sudden, in slow motion, she was walking toward Shawna and started falling–first onto her butt, and then tumbled backwards off the wall, head-first onto the concrete. All i could do is watch, and hear that sickening thud as her head met the pavement. I quickly grabbed her and held her as she wailed, and looked at her head. The skin wasn’t broken, but was quickly starting to bruise and swell. I ran to the hot dog vendor and grabbed some ice, wrapped it in my shirt and put it on her head. She wouldn’t stop crying, and all I wanted to do was hold her and tell her I was sorry.
