A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

No more whining!!

I’m referring to my own whining, which I’ve realized I do a lot of. I was going to finish posting about our weekend in New York (which consisted of an impacted baby bowel–my dad had to “go in” and fix it; vomiting on the Q into Manhattan–yes, the LOCAL, about three stops into the ride; walking up 5th Ave. with a naked vomit-covered baby in search of a bathroom; dog escaping again; and another impacted bowel)–but I decided against it.

We moved onto bigger and better: the kitchen sink leaked; the bathroom sink wouldn’t drain; toilet is leaking into the basement; and ants are carrying the pets away.

What I really wanted to mention is how smart my little girl is! During our bedtime routine the other night, as I was falling asleep and Grammy wasn’t, I put my hands behind my head to stretch. I figured, What the hell, and asked her, Can you put your hands on your head? AND SHE DID IT!!! We have never even talked about what part of her body her head is, because I thought with all those subparts (eyes, ears, nose, etc.), she’d just get confused. Then, when I asked her where her nose is, she stuck each of her index fingers in the respective nostril and swayed from side to side.

Tonight Shawna asked Grammy where her bottom is, and Grammy slapped her ass with attitude! We swear we didn’t teach her that either. We will, however, take responsibility for teaching her where her v-jayjay is, and using appropriate terminology (though not appropriate for this webpage, lest I end up with prOn linkbacks).

She also calls Hop on Pop! “PopPopPop,” which I think is painfully adorable. She still loves her books, which reassures me that we’re doing something right, at least momentarily. We took her to the Friends of the Library Book Sale, which, for you non-locals, is basically a feeding frenzy of cheap, musty books. Great for kid’s books, minus the copy of Maisy that was covered in some sticky substance and missing some pop-ups. Graem ran down every aisle, grabbed a book here and there, and plopped down to tear through the pages. She would join other kids’ parents’ reading circles and provide commentary.

Anyway, off to bed…god I love that kid.
