New gastronomical adventures
Graem ate her first Crayola crayon, Indigo to be exact. She chased it with a few kibbles of dog food.
We’re looking forward to paste.

We had a rough night last night. Grammy went to bed easily and without event at around 8:00. I forced myself to go to bed just before 10, and fell asleep quickly. At 11, we heard Graem start stirring, and slowly start to cry. Shawna went down to change her and give her a bit of bottle, and I followed shortly after, thinking that it wasn’t working. I was overzealous and didn’t give Shawna enough time, and by that point, it was too late to convince Graem to take the bottle. So I nursed and rocked her back to sleep, and then transferred her to the crib. Once in the crib, Graem decided that it was time to sit up and play and say, Cat! a lot. I said goodnight and went upstairs, but Graem started to cry. I tried to wait it out as long as i could, then went back down when I couldn’t stand it any longer. This time I tried giving her some Tylenol/cold medicine (she has a cough/snotnose due to teething again), then went back upstairs. Finally after more crying, I decided I couldn’t take it any more and brought her back to bed–it was almost midnight by then. I figure that she’s able to fall asleep in the crib by herself now, and I’m convinced that she can sleep continuously for almost the entire night if she’s comfortable. She’s got a cold and isn’t comfortable, and thus isn’t happy in the crib. I think she’ll get over it.
So I revised the ‘Page last night to eliminate the redundancy of “Links” to the navbar at the top, and added some recent blog finds. I came across these blogs from others I’ve visited, and now that I’m sleuthing out others, I’m finding that I’m not nearly as funny, sarcastic, or sardonic as other moms out there. I’m also feeling overwhelmed that there are so many blogs out there, and so little time to read! Or write, and attempt to be witty. I think it’s going to make me Realize I’m Not That *insert trait here* And Decide That Since I Can’t Be the Best at *whatever it is*, I’m Going to Do Nothing Instead.
Wittius, Altius, Fortius–oh well.
but I’m glad that we seem to have crested the hill on bedtime. Our routine has evolved to a little light reading before bedtime (”Who’s Under That Hat” and “That’s Not My Kitten!” are our latest hits), a few minutes of nursing in the rocking chair, followed by some snuggle time before putting Graem in the crib. I really love how snuggly she’s gotten: she sits straddling my lap facing me, wraps her arms around me, and buries her face into my chest. Sometimes she’ll stroke my sides softly with her hands, and I can just feel her calm down and her breathing slow. We sit like this for about ten minutes, and I tell her how much I love her. Then I pick her up and tell her that it’s time to go to bed, and put her in the crib. Read the rest of this entry »
Traveling to NYC is always a gastronomical adventure. Unfortunately, being trapped in Brighton Beach usually limits us to kebabs, smoked fish, stroganoff and vodka. These all have their own merits, but can grow tiresome. Venturing into Manhattan had its promises, but our expectations were sorely shattered–mainly due to being unprepared in our research, and having a hungry, grumpy, teething baby on hand (Graem). Here are our assessments: Read the rest of this entry »
