A Tale of Two Mamas

Trying to keep someone IN timeout

Wishful thinking?

Sunday night we were watching tv and not paying close attention to Graem. When we looked down on the floor at her, she had pulled a single diaper out of the diaper basket, laid down on the floor next to it, and stuck her legs up in the air. She was also holding her hands together and rubbing them palm-to-palm, signing, “change.” At first I thought it was a coincidence, but last night as I was about to change her diaper, she signed it again. I’m so excited that signing to her is working!

Grammy’s latest tricks

I thought I’d update the board with the ever-increasing number of mischievous tricks that Graem has been up to:

Paging Mama
Graem has found the “Page” button on the base of the cordless phone. She walks up to the side table with the base, looks at Shawna with a mischievous grin, and pushes the button repeatedly to make the handset beep incessantly. She watches as Shawna turns off the handset, and then repeats the whole process.

Graem is Wired
Graem loves the cell phones, and has for some time. Only now she knows how to push the buttons to speed dial our friends and family, and also found the button to get online, which bills us some $900 per minute or something like that. She similarly loves the cordless phone, dialing random numbers until the recording states, “The number you have dialed is not in order. Please check your number and dial again.” It’s a good thing we don’t have long distance on our landline.

The Pet Door
Graem has started throwing her toys through the pet door into the basement. I’m sure our cell phones will end up down there too.

My Beautiful Laundrette
Graem “helps” with the laundry–she repeatedly unfolds recently folded garments to address our lack of quality control. She has an unusual penchant for picking out the unmentionables and strewing them on the kitchen floor.

Last But Not Least…
Just before I got the new version of the webpage up and running, Graem managed to hit a keystroke that effectively took down the webpage.

One of the photos that we took in Syracuse along with her Christmas photos. You’ll have to wait for the rest!

Back home

We spent Thanksgiving with Dennis in Astoria, NY. It was a good visit–we ate tons and visited the Brooklyn Children’s Museum–but unfortunately, the City took advantage of us. First, we parked 6 inches too close to a fire hydrant, resulting in a $115 parking ticket. We figured we can contest the ticket, with some photo documentation and a letter.

Thanksgiving morning, we went grocery shopping (we had procrastinated), and as I was unlocking the car door, I noticed that our side view mirror had been vandalized, along with about 5 other cars parked on the same side of the street. This sort of thing has never happened to me, and I was infuriated. Figuring our luck had already come to an end, we decided to cut short our visit and head home.

A whole new world…

I’m trying this new format for posting updates to our blog–we are venturing into the 21st century and trying out PHP. Be prepared for some snags along the way, but in exchange for quality, I’m going to promise quantity, since this format implies ease of use.
