A Tale of Two Mamas
Trying to keep someone IN timeout

This years has gone by so fast!
Graem’s last day of school is next Wednesday and she’s scheduled for a gardening camp and swim lessons over the summer. She’s very excited about both.
Graem is doing amazing at school. She’s ready and loves learning new things. She’s really into birds right now and can identify most birds that are native to our area. We got her a field guide and we’re marking which birds we see.
One thing I love about Graem is how easily she makes friends. She can walk up to any kid and just start playing with them. At one point when she was younger she was so shy and couldn’t talk to kids or adults. Now she seems extremely comfortable and even engages with older kids who might be a little intimidating!
I’m pretty excited about the summer. We have vacation scheduled in July and it’ll be interesting to see how I survive with two girls at home! Graem is really a big help with Emmy.
I don’t have any new pictures to post…but will work on it soon!

Dear PDB,
I sit here writing this post and although I have so much running through my mind right now I just don’t know how I can put all of it into words. You are sleeping now and I know you’re bound to wake up any minute now!
It’s been an amazing year, little petri dish baby.
This time last year my contractions were getting strong and I had just finished having Mexican lunch with my friend, Amy. Graem and I went to Wegmans to stock up on goodies and purchase their wonderful deluxe chocolate cake. (You know the one that you loved so much?)
Each time I think of you I smile. Your black curly q’s in the back of your head are a mystery to me and your mommy. We keep looking at the donor profile and still keep agreeing on the fact that we’ve never seen a Chinese person with curly hair!
I’ve been told that you are my little “Asian mini-me elf”, which of course, I took as a complement. (Sorry kid!)
What’s funny is that you have many of my same mannerisms and you smile an awful lot! You instantly light up any room that you crawl into with your natural cuteness and flirty grin.

You have four teeth and two more coming in up top. The first two teeth were a major bizotch but I think you’ve learned to handle the pain. (Plus, we like to dope you up with Tylenol nightly).

As far as moving… You’re not doing it, damnit. You crawled really early and we were sure that you’d be an early walker. HA! Were we wrong? You get where you want to go by crawling and you are a master cruiser.
You are VERY headstrong and persistent. Something that your mommy says you get from me. I tend to think it’s the introverted sperm donor we chose. *shrug*
You adore your sister. There’s nothing sweeter than seeing the two of you play. She makes you giggle all of the time and not just little giggles — I’m talking about belly giggles! She loves you so much.

You are truly a badbaby but I’m not sure we’d have it any other way. We love you and are so happy that you’re our little girl.
Happy 1st Birthday, Emm.
Love,
Mama
P.S. Could you work on the snuggle a little bit? I know you’re trying to be independent and all but your kisses are magical. *mwah*

So I don’t know if there’s something in the air but I’ve been bitten by the “bitchin’” bug.
Yesterday I was in rare form.
First of all, we had contractors at our house installing our new sliding french doors. I go downstairs and our electricity is totally out. Then I realize that the heat vent he moved over is half assed installed. So I call him downstairs and point these out.
His comment was “yeah, I thought that light was working yesterday.”
Uh yeah, dipshit. Anyway, after another two hours of him tinkering around he finally jacked up the electrical and I’m just praying that our house doesn’t catch on fire. I made sure to question his electrical practices even though I had no idea wtf he was doing!
As far as the heating duct is concerned he said he was just moving it over and that’s the way the previous installer did the job. Bastard Sears installers.
Then our furnace starts making this buzzing noise so I call out the company that installed our a/c two weeks ago. They come out and tell me that I shouldn’t have shut off the vents to the kids rooms. I inform them that the only way we get air upstairs is if I shut them off. The tech goes upstairs and says that we should have a heat/air return installed upstairs. Something totally not mentioned when we installed our $3,000 air conditioner. And we were told that we would have full air throughout the house!
So he says he’ll go back to the shop and try to figure something out. The salesperson calls on the phone and tries to defend herself in saying that all houses are different and she didn’t know how our house would react with an a/c unit, blah, blah blah. Obviously, they don’t want to eat the cost. But, Jesus Christ, I shouldn’t have to use a friggin’ window a/c unit to cool the upstairs after I’ve paid a fortune to have central air!
Anyway, I tell her to go to the drawing board and that I’m not happy at all. She’s suppose to get back to me this morning. Bitch.
I’m seconds from telling them to pound salt and come and get their piece of shit air conditioning unit. As noted in their guarantee:
“If at any time during the first 6 months (180 days) of installation, you are not 100% satisfied
with the performance of the equipment, our service or even our people,
we will, within 30 days of your request, remove the system and
cheerfully refund the entire amount of the contract.”
Yeah, right I’m sure they’ll “cheerfully” return my money! They’ll probably drop off the $3,000.00 in pennies on my doorstep.
Then I went to Baby Gap and got Emmy a pair of jeans and Graem a head band. Graem tries it on for three minutes takes it off and I realize there’s chocolate or blood all over it. So I call Gap to bitch and moan about their nasty headband!
Mama is on a roll ….
*yawn*
I need a nap now.

Things have been really crazy busy lately. It seems like dull life turns into crazy life when the weather breaks and many days I leave the house at 8am and stay out all day with Emmy running errands and hanging out in the running car while she naps!
The good thing is … she’s sleeping through the night! I think I’ve got her on a pretty good nap schedule too. She falls asleep approx 8:45 and if I’m taking Graem to school she’s typically asleep by the time we pull into the school parking lot. Then she tends to go to bed at 1:30pm for around an hour or so.
Margot’s been working mad hours and so I’ve been single mom a lot and it’s been a real pain in the ass. Not sure how single moms and dads do it!
We’re getting our sliding French doors installed next week and we’ll start working on our deck after that! We also got central air conditioning! Quite the investment but it looks like the next few days it’s really going to come in handy!
The kids…
Emmy has 4 teeth now and is seriously CUTE. She says mama, mommy, yum, and signs for more. We’ve also heard her say baby, and Emmy…but thinking both of those might have been a fluke. She smiles and flirts with everyone and she’s still nursing. She typically nurses 3-6 times a day. Some days she’ll nurse in the morning and then she can make it til the afternoon before she gets fussy and needs babas. It’s been nice to have a little more freedom and not feel like she’s glued to the boob all the time.
Graem is doing amazing. She loves school and she’s super smart. It’s so great to see her interact with her friends because she treats them with such respect and I’m so glad to see that she has that attribute. She’s very excited about summer vacation and the prospect of going to Disneyland in October!
We have a few vacations scheduled - July 11-18 we’re going to Provincetown! It’s been a while since we’ve gone on a vacation and so it’ll be nice to meet up with Alex and Dominic. We’re staying in a time-share apartment and so we plan on putting the kids to bed at their normal bedtime and hanging out at the pool! Thank God for baby monitors, right?!?
We also just booked tickets to go to Los Angeles to see Alex and Dom! We’re so excited about that. We’ve wanted to visit for a while now but weren’t brave enough to take PDB on the plane cross country. We figured with flights as cheap as $245 round trip from Ithaca … we had to do it!
We just got back last weekend from NYC — I’ll save that trip for another post entirely!
I have so many things I want to write about but everytime I start something I end up deleting it because Emmy is making a mess and I have to intervene or she’s chewing on electrical cables!
I’ll leave you with a few pics….

Right now I have a few minutes while Emmy is taking a nap and before I have to pick up Graem!
We’re getting central air conditioning installed and this mama is one happy camper. Since the economy is in the shitter we were able to get a great deal from a local contractor and I didn’t have to go through Sears! (Another post entirely!)
Things have been going really good with us! Margot’s been putting in mad hours at work. I’ve been dropping off Graem and picking up. So I literally spend 2 hours on the road every day! It’s not so bad because Emmy tends to sleep in the car and I either talk to myself or turn on the radio and listen to bad “adult contemporary”. eww.
Our house hasn’t been cleaned in about three weeks and aside from the dead aunts upstairs I’m happy to report that I haven’t seen any mouse turds.
OH…speaking of mice. I caught that little fucker that was in my minivan! I check the traps daily and sure enough — he got nailed with the tasty peanut butter. Of course, I had to drive to Margot’s work so that she could dispose of said mouse.
Well, Emmy is awake and crying so I’ve got to make this short.
Our back up drive went down and so we’re trying to recover all of our wonderful pictures from umm….THE PAST FIVE YEARS.
I’ll try to post some pictures as time allows.
